Westmalle Double is a dark red-brown trappist ale which undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle. Creamy in colour, the foam releases an aroma of special malt and leaves some pretty lacing on the side of the glass. The flavours are both rich and complex, fruity and spicy, with a bitter finish that retains its freshness. This is a well-balanced high quality beer, round on the palate and with a long, dry finish.
