Top-fermented abbey beer, the brown beer from the Abbey of Maredsous was originally brewed for Christmastime but found its niche and won its way into the hearts of beer connoisseurs. It is a deep Bordeaux red and chocolate in colour with a creamy foam. Its aftertaste conjures up thoughts of dark berries, fruits and citrus rind. Its citrus aftertaste does away with the heaviness of a brown ale. Like the triple, the bottle contains yeast as the beer is refermented in the bottle.
